Mapxus and IVE Engineering (VTC) Sign MOU to Advance Indoor Mapping Education and Nurture Engineering Talent

March 26, 2026

Mapxus and IVE Engineering, the engineering discipline of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 3, 2026. This agreement formalizes a strategic partnership to integrate high-precision indoor mapping and positioning technology into Hong Kong's engineering education, nurturing the next generation of technical talent.

Strategic Collaboration in Indoor Mapping and Positioning Technology

Before the formal signing of this MOU, the collaboration between Mapxus and IVE Engineering had already delivered significant results. Mapxus supported the deployment of its advanced indoor mapping system at the IVE Tsing Yi and IVE (Haking Wong) campuses.

Both parties jointly developed an enrichment module covering the fundamentals of indoor spatial data. Students gained hands-on experience in:

  • Spatial Data Collection and processing.
  • Map Modeling for complex indoor environments.
  • Positioning Algorithms and real-world implementation.

From Internship to Social Impact: Empowering Future Engineers

At the signing ceremony, Toby Chan Cheuk Yin, a Year 2 student of the Higher Diploma in Computer and Data Engineering, shared his personal growth during his internship with Mapxus. Toby contributed to the "Fire Reporting Indoor Map" project, a real-world application demonstrating how engineering innovation enhances public safety and community well-being.

"This project has been immensely beneficial. I am deeply grateful for the guidance from both IVE Engineering lecturers and Mapxus," Toby shared.

In recognition of such outstanding performance, Dr. John Chan, Founder and CEO of Mapxus, presented Certificates of Competency to Toby and a group of high-achieving students. This gesture underscores the commitment of Mapxus to validating technical proficiency and nurturing industry-ready talent.

Strategic Pillars of the Mapxus and IVE Engineering Partnership

Under the MOU, Mapxus and IVE Engineering will broaden collaboration in education and applied technology, including:

  • Curriculum and training: Co-developing modules on indoor positioning technologies and practical applications.
  • Applied research and development: Focusing on indoor positioning systems for emergency rescue and smart city scenarios.
  • Industry mentorship: Expanding internship programs and providing direct exposure to live industry projects.
  • Community outreach: Introducing indoor mapping technology to secondary schools to spark interest in engineering.

Investing in the People Behind the Technology

This partnership closely aligns leading-edge industry technology with vocational education. Students gain not only job-ready technical competence but also the opportunity to contribute to socially meaningful solutions, developing into engineers who can drive both industry advancement and community impact.
