Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) recently announced the first overseas use case of mapxus Driven by Kawasaki™, applying the indoor location information service at HillView Merrimac, an aged care facility in Queensland, Australia. Through care activity measurement using the service, KHI was able to quantitatively understand and visualize advanced care management practices inside the facility.

mapxus Driven by Kawasaki™ is an indoor location information service developed through the collaboration between KHI and Mapxus. The service combines indoor positioning and map information to support location-based applications across complex environments. According to KHI, the service combines indoor location information using Wi-Fi signal environments with outdoor location information, such as GPS, and map information to provide location information across indoor and outdoor spaces.
At HillView Merrimac, KHI collected and analyzed location information related to staff movement routes within the facility, care-related work content, and time spent in resident rooms. This helped visualize where care-related work took place and how time was distributed across different areas, supporting an objective and quantitative understanding of the facility’s care management practices.
The measurement was conducted from April 21 to April 28, 2026, involving 125 staff members and 83 residents. During the study period, participants carried pocket-sized positioning devices. By measuring changes in location information, KHI was able to visualize staff movement, specific work content, and time spent in resident rooms.

For aged care and healthcare environments, spatial insights can help facility operators better understand how workflows are carried out across complex indoor spaces. In this case, the measurements helped KHI objectively and quantitatively understand how HillView Merrimac delivers individualized care for residents while maintaining efficient operations with a smaller staffing structure.
This first overseas use case demonstrates how indoor location information can support care activity measurement and workflow visualization in care facilities. By providing an objective view of staff movement, work content, and time spent in resident rooms, the technology can support operational analysis and improvement in complex care environments.
Mapxus is pleased to see mapxus Driven by Kawasaki™ applied through KHI’s first overseas use case in Australia. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with KHI and supporting the practical use of indoor location information across healthcare, aged care, and other complex indoor environments.
